πŸ”’ Website Locks

Mouse Locks

You can limit what the users can do with mouse behavior by using mouse locks.

Right-Click Lock

If you want visitors to be able to copy and paste text content from your site but not to copy/paste or Right-Click-Save your site's photos, Right-Click Lock is a great choice.

Visitors to your site will be unable to right-click or right-click-save any picture if Right-Click Lock is activated.

Although this lock is active, users will still be able to right-click images on some websites. Even if the right-click menu appears, the Save Picture option will not function in this case. This could happen depending on your website's script layout.

Full-Screen Lock

This lock is a more advanced variant of the Right-click Lock.

When enabled, users will be unable to copy and paste your photos and text content using a mouse or touchpad, nor will they be able to access the native browser right-click menu from anywhere on your website.

Drag & Drop Lock

Photos can be saved with a mouse drag and drop operation in certain browsers and operating systems. Photolock will stop this from happening and give your images more protection.

Keyboard Locks

You can disable keyboard behavior that users can use to collect your content with keyboard locks.

Copy-Paste Lock

Cut, copy, and paste are related commands in human-computer interaction that allow a user to transfer data. When a user cuts or copies text, it is automatically saved in the clipboard, which is a temporary storage tool. The contents of the clipboard are then pasted into the location where the paste order is given. These commands allow a user to capture text and image content from your website.

When a user is browsing your site, Copy & Paste Lock disables these commands. When this lock is enabled, the following activities on Windows and Mac OS X will be disabled

COPY SHORTCUTS
Windows: Ctrl + C
Mac: ⌘ + C
PASTE SHORTCUTS
Windows: Ctrl + S
Mac: ⌘ + S
caution

All similar commands in a browser context menu are also disabled when Copy & Paste Lock is enabled (mouse right-click menu). Controls will appear in the menu list as usual, but they will have no impact on your website.

File Save Lock

The File Save shortcut is a key combination that most PC keyboards have. When you click the key, it tries to save your entire website as an HTML file, which includes all image properties.

If the lock is switched on, the following keyboard activities on Windows and macOS will be disabled when a user is browsing your site:

SAVE SHORTCUTS
Windows: Ctrl + S
Mac: ⌘ + S

Screenshot Lock

Most computer keyboards have a print screen key, which is abbreviated as Prscr, PRTSC, PrtScrn, Prt Scrn, or Ps/SR. Depending on the operating system or software application, pressing the key sends the current screen image to the user clipboard or to the active computer printer.

With the support of this lock, you can disable this key for users when they are browsing your site.

caution

Some Apple computers might be lacking this key, in which case the lock will not work. This lock also does not work on portable devices such as laptops and tablets.

Screenshot Lock (Aggressive Mode)

You can prevent users from taking screenshots with custom keyboard shortcuts by blocking the Windows or Command Key.

Screen Locks

You can disable a user's ability to take images by disabling browser interactions with screen locks.

Text Copy & Paste Lock

Text Copy & Paste Lock prevents users from copying and pasting text material from your website. When this option is activated, all relevant mouse and key commands will be disabled.

This setting overrides Copy-Paste Lock under Keyboard locks. When this setting is enabled, regardless of whether Keyboard Copy-Paste Lock is enabled, keyboard shortcuts will not operate.

Focus Lock

When using a computer, focus is achieved when a job, such as a website or a computer app, is opened. When the mouse is moved to a different place, the focus is lost. This lock ensures that your website is only available when a user is focused on your store and actively browsing.

It's a crucial lock to keep third-party sketching tools and apps from stealing your images. This Focus Lock will blur your website content if the user is not active on your site, and the content will become visible again as soon as the user's focus is detected.

When you browse your website with this lock enabled, you may notice fuzzy material bouncing from one tab to another, which is the desired effect of this lock.

3D Touch Lock

Apple Inc. developed 3D Touch, a pressure-sensitive multi-touch technology that allows trackpads and touchscreens to differentiate between various levels of force being applied to their surfaces.

iPhones have three levels of input technology, allowing users to configure their choice for light, medium, or firm presses on the iPhone screens to access other details. A user can use 3D Touch to perform acts such as capturing images and other content from your website.

By triggering this lock, you can disable this feature when a user is browsing your site.

Printing Lock

Printing web pages from your computer or mobile device is possible for all modern web browsers. By enabling the Printing Lock function, you can easily prevent visitors from printing images and pages from your website.

Source Code Protection

Source Code Protection provides an extra layer of defense against advanced users and bots on the internet.

Hide Source Code

While the mouse, keyboard, and screen locks in Photolock are designed to prevent non-technical users from downloading your photos, anyone who knows how to access a website's code can find the images and download them from there.

Hide Souce Code makes it more difficult for a user to copy your photos from the source code of your website. This lock detects a visitor's attempt to access the source code using a variety of methods, and when it is detected, it hides the code from the user.

When this lock is enabled, the code will be inaccessible through web browser inspect tools.

Anti-Bot Scraper Protection

A bot is an application that automates a mission, such as setting an alarm, providing weather information, or searching the internet. Bots are ubiquitous in today's world, ranging from virus-infected bots to search engine spiders that search the Internet for new Web pages or image files to collect.

The Anti-Bot Scraper Protection employs a variety of techniques to prevent malicious bots from reading your website's source code and scraping it for photos without your permission.

Hide Image Sources

If you enable this lock, it prevents remote hotlinking and browser file exports by rendering image sources unreadable.

tip

Search engine bots are unaffected by Anti-Bot Scraper Protection, and Photolock provides an additional lock if you want to prevent your photos from appearing in search results: Try External Locks.

Warning Messages

When a visitor tries to right-click a picture on your website, you can configure a message that appears. This message appears only when users right-click a picture.

You can say anything you want in this message, but we suggest telling the visitor how to contact you if they want to use the photo they're trying to right-click or right-click-save. Since the right-click message will be added to all photos on your website, it's best to keep it generic.

Customize your alert message by going to the Warning Message section under Messages.

External Locks

The Pinterest Lock prevents visitors from saving or pinning photos from your site to their Pinterest boards.

Browser Locks

Enforce Whitelisting

There are browser extensions and settings that are available to assist users to prevent internet ads and trackers. Some of these blockers, however, attempt to deactivate Javascript, which is utilized by many web programs. When this happens, the browser will be able to bypass Photolock, allowing the user to view your photographs and material.

You can require visitors to whitelist Photolock on their browsers and block them until they do so by adding some code. If the code detects that the browser is obstructing Photolock protection, it will block the user.

Follow the instructions in the Photolock dashboard to add the code β†’

tip

Shopify users can enable this security by using dedicated settings in the Shopify Theme Editor, which Photolock provides.

Brave Bowser

When Brave's shield features prevent Photolock from working on a website, it prompts users to switch to a standard browser.
